Marketing is Cutthroat

Wednesday, 21 October 2009 09:47

quote Advertising in a recession is like punching your competition in the face. If you do it, you might gain all of their business.... If you don't, you might as well shut down and lockup shop endquote
- Joshua Loring Tolbert, Owner

Mac VS PCYou all have pondered it before. Why does my competition do so well? How come they have so much business and we have none? To be honest, we know marketing very well and have made it our mission to try every kind of marketing- whether it worked or not. Call it "market research". We know what doesn't work and dispite our recommendations to some clients, those that tried advertising in some of these forms admitted to wasting away thousands of dollars. Advertising will only bring you business, it's up to you to carry an honest, high quality company. You must be aggressive in advertising - look at how Carls Jr attacks the Big Mac on television with the new BigCarl burger. We all know Mac Vs Pc as well. Big companies know just as well as us that cutthroat marketing is how it is.

So if that's the case, what type of marketing can you do to bring in new clientele? There are many types of advertising, and you can take infinite paths on the way to finding your niche. Over the years we have worked with thousands of clients in almost every profession and learned as well as invented a lot of advertising tricks. We are not going to lie to you, advertising does take money. If you are looking for the cheap way out, you can expect the same results in return. On another note, advertising doesn't have to cost you a fortune. Our competition has been known to say they despise us because we control our market. Several businesses in the area like ours have shut their doors. One other graffix shop in the area went as far as to flip off a pregnant woman in one of our wrapped vehicles because of their bitterness towards how we market. Why? At the time our building was tucked away from all sight and drive by traffic leaving external advertising and word of mouth our only source of new clients. We know why, It's because we have invested time in the right types of marketing and advertising and we know how to find your "niche". Combine that with a better quality business and the possibilities are endless. Our marketing alone brings us business from almost every country in the world.

There are several necessities to having a good marketing campaign- to start you will need a good graphic designer. There's a catch to choosing a good graphic designer though. A real graphic designer needs time to research your industry and the best way to market your business. Expect a graphic company to have a pre-consultation, take a deposit for artwork and schedule a later date for your first artwork submission. If you find a company that is willing to slap something together overnite, it's more than likely going not going to be personable to your company but rather something "in the box". A real designer not only has the ability to create graphic media, but the passion to produce an out of the box quality campaign and brand for your business. A real designer knows the industry outside of their rhelm and studies advertising regularly. Be sure your potential artist has a wide range of style in their portfolio.

In conclusion, make sure to hire the right designer, shop around and get to know your graphic designer. DO NOT spend money on books with yellow paper! They are a complete waste of money and there is a reason they are going bankrupt- it doesn't work! Be careful trading work for advertising it usually doesn't work either. The right graphics company can create a sound on and offline advertising campaign that will bring you endless leads. The rest is up to you!
