Depending on what type of industry your business is in, having a website address on a vehicle wrap can be advertising suicide. The reason? The power of "Google." Before reading further please note that this article is not to be mistaken for having a website- as Internet marketing is a very powerful tool but that's another blog entry. This blog is simply to give you our professional opinion on what having a website address on a mobile advertising unit can do.
wraps are for phone calls, websites are for the internet ![]() |
The facts: From our own research in seeing companies that have a URL on a vehicle wrap, if the company offers a service that interests us we will browse the site to see what kind of business they are. The problem: once the site is viewed, we go right into shopping mode and start to google other websites that may offer a better product or service. People these days are programmed for information and deals which in turn can flip what should have been a phone call from your mobile advertising into a lost sale. Your goal with mobile advertising is to reach potential clients in a fast and efficient way and convert that moment into a sale. We recommend to our clients that wraps are for phone calls, websites are for the internet.
Having a phone number on your graphics is a much more personable way to "sell" your potential lead on the services you offer. If you are a mobile groomer people are entrusting you with their pets and having a website address on your mobile unit is a cold way to meet your interested client. If you are a realtor, you wouldn't want to loose a sale to someone else offering the same property. It's best that you list your phone number and not a web address on your wrap. Unless you are a web based company like ebay or amazon then more then likely having a web domain on your wrap could push clients into online shopping mode and away from your website. With that said- how many times have you been on ebay and left to go shopping on another site?? Point proven..
Website based companies: ok.. Maybe having your site on a vehicle wrap will work for you. If you are looking to have people register for something online.. A URL might be better for you. There ARE cases where a domain will work on a vehicle wrap but for the average business we say no. Keep in mind you're going to have to have a really catchy domain though! After all, you wouldn't want your leads to find a different site offering the same products because they couldn't remember your URL. Whether you have a vehicle wrap or website it is important to use them for what they were designed to do. Vehicle wraps are meant to bring you leads from offline clients that see what you offer and call for purchasing. Websites are meant to back your company with additional information and/or portfolios but ultimately to bring you business from those online shoppers we talked about above. With all of that said.. You can make the final decision on whether having a web address on your vehicle wrap is a good idea or not.
